Over Five weeks, you’ll attend classes twice a week for two hours each time, immersing yourself in the world of recording techniques and different audio recording software. With plenty of hands-on experience and personalized instruction, you’ll be amazed at how much you can accomplish in just four short weeks. 20 Hour Beginner Course
Week 1: Introduction To The Studio
- Basics of sound, including the human ear and speakers
- Importance of acoustics
- Studio design principles
Week 2: Getting Started
- Running a Pro Tools recording session
- File organization best practices
- Signal routing and setup
Week 3: Tracking
- Setting up your own recording and mixing template
- Tracking 2-track and stems
- Hands-on practice with tracking a hip hop artist
Week 4: Understanding The Gear
- Dynamics, Condensers, and Tube Mics
- Analog equipment and its importance
- Experimenting with Preamps, compressors, EQs
- Learning Signal Flow
Week 5: Lab Practice
- Dedicated week for practical experience
- Refining skills in operating Pro Tools
- Hands on practice with compressing, EQ and gain staging audio.
- Implementing effects in recordings & beginning stages of mixing.
More Information
ELIGIBILITY: Anyone (beginner or intermediate) interested in learning the fundamentals of audio engineering in all genres of music is eligible for this class.
LENGTH: This is a 5 week (20 total hours) course that is delivered as a 1-on-1 instruction. 5 consecutive weeks: Eight 4-hour Sunday evening lesson once per week. Two 10-hour Sunday (full-day) lessons dedicated to recording and mixing a full band.
PRICE: $1300 for 1-on-1 instruction. The 1-on-1 tuition reflects a highly specialized curriculum, dedicated studio time, flexible schedule and personalized attention to the individual student. Ask about our payment plans!
TO REGISTER: We require a 50% deposit to reserve your seat. The balance is due by the start date of the course OR you can participate in our payment plan. There are no additional costs.
GROUP COURSE COUNTDOWN: August 2025. Classes run four times a year. Scheduling is flexible for holidays. If you do not want to wait until August 2025, we recommend enrolling in the 1-on-1 version of this course. 1-on-1 courses have “ongoing admissions” and can begin whenever you are ready.
